Education is at the heart of everything we do at SVVY. Our non-profit, Impactful Education connects universities with students from the Global South, so that capable students get access to seats that would otherwise stay empty. Impactful Education also supports children's education in the communities where we work.
This school year, Impactful Education is sponsoring two children at KEA Learning Hub in Taytay, Rizal, in the Philippines.
Say hello to Angel. Angel is in Grade 1 and is the first child we sponsor. She is a happy girl who loves to sing, dance and draw. On 3 September, Nicolas from our team visited KEA and met Angel, her parents and her teachers. She also turned out to be a big fan of Norwegian chocolate, and finished a whole bar faster than Nicolas did.
Angel lives about 500 meters from the school, and her way to school goes along the river. Before KEA, going to school would have meant several hours of travel every day. Being able to go to a school close to home makes a big difference for the whole family.
Together with the school, we chose a model that reaches two families instead of one. Impactful Education covers half of the tuition and the school supplies, and the parents cover the other half. This way, the support goes further, and the families stay part of their children's education. The second child we sponsor is a young boy in kindergarten.
The visit left a strong impression on us, and this is only the beginning. Nicolas will return to KEA in November to teach, and our goal is to keep sponsoring children so they can go to school.
